The third stop on the 2024 Supercars Championship brought the field all the way across the ditch for the 2024 ITM Taupō Super400. Making their Taupō debut, the Supercars took to Taupo International Motorsport Park for Race 7 and 8 of the 2024 Championship. Nick Percat took the reigns of the Bendix Racing Camaro for its third-ever outing, looking to continue riding his wave of momentum from an outstanding start to the season.

The weekend’s practice session kicked away on Friday afternoon, giving drivers a chance to familiarise themselves with the new-for-the-series track. Nick would go on to etch out in the spot in the Top 10 with the 10th fastest lap in the session thanks to a best time of 1m26.781s.

Saturday would prove challenging for the team with wet weather conditions throughout the day. Qualifying for Race 7 was first off the block for Saturday morning, with Nick Percat claiming a P24 start for the afternoon’s race after a spinout during the session. Hampered by a start at the back of the grid, Nick had a lot of ground to make up. Race 7 kicked off in the afternoon and saw the entire field trying their best to battle the extreme weather. After a huge effort and despite a 15-second penalty during the race, Nick would climb five spots up the pack to a P19 finish to cap off Saturday’s festivities.

Qualifying for Race 8 kicked off the action for Sunday, with Nick Percat coming away with another P24 qualifying result to start the final race of the weekend. Race 8 started later in the afternoon and would see Nick Percat charge up the ranks, claiming eight spots to a P16 finish to round out the weekend. Nick had the following to say to wrap up the team’s excursion to New Zealand.

Nick Percat: “Probably one that got away a little bit. Car was fast in today’s race on Sunday; too many driver errors in qualifying cost us a decent shot at it. Thankfully the car has come back straight again. We’ll re-group and get ready for Perth. It was an awesome fight out there today, we went from 24th to 16th with some big battles along the way. Probably just a little bit tough around here to get momentum in the race from the back, especially with the tyre life and bits and pieces like that. I had an epic race with Davison and Frosty pretty much from start to finish — all three of us probably wish we were further up. Looking forward to going to Perth soon and getting the Bendix Racing car back up the front."
